Tog Ratings explained

A Duvet Tog rating is a standardised measurement used in the UK to classify the level of warmth provided by a duvet.

Put simply, the higher the tog – the warmer the duvet.

The Duvet Store offers the widest range of togs in the UK: From 2.5 Tog all the way up to 18 Tog (normally in increments of 1.5).

As a guide, the following tog ratings are recommended for UK usage:

  • Summer Togs    2.5, 3, 4.5
  • Spring/Autumn 6, 7.5, 9, 10.5
  • Winter 12, 13.5, 15, 18

13.5 tog is the most widely used winter weight duvet in UK.

4.5 is the most popular summer weight duvet.

We also have All Seasons Duvets which comprise of two separate duvets – a Summer Tog and a Spring/Autumn Tog – which can be joined together to make a Winter Tog (e.g. 4.5 + 9).

One final point to note – weight doesn’t equal warmth.

For example: a high-quality duvet filled with 100% Down will weigh a lot less than a Synthetic Hollowfibre duvet of the same tog rating, but the warmth will be the same.
